The 5000 bill of the new kwanzas family thus joins the 200, 500, 1000 and 2000 kwanzas that are already on the market.
With the process of issuing the new notes, the National Bank of Angola (BNA) has already spent 30 million dollars, writes Angop.
It should be remembered that the new family of kwanzas came into circulation on 30 July with the launch of the 200 kwanza note. Meanwhile in September, October and November the 500, 1000 and 2000 kwanza banknotes were introduced.
The introduction of the new kwanza family does not invalidate the series of old banknotes, which remain valid until the end of next year. As of January 2022, the old kwanza family is no longer accepted.
The Angolans have until 2025 to exchange their old notes for the new ones. The exchange can be done at commercial banks until December 2021 and at BNA facilities until 2025.
