According to a statement sent to VerAngola, the selection of these books as finalists for the literary award highlights Angola's position in African literature.
"Two Angolan books were selected as finalists for the 10th edition of the prestigious Sankofa Book Awards – Kenya 2025, consolidating national literary talent on the continental stage," the statement reads.
"Os Bantus na Visão de Mafrano – Volume II," by Maurício Francisco Caetano (Mafrano), and "O Recluso: O Princípio e o Fim de uma Injustiça," by Nituecheni Africano, are the works that "achieved a prominent place among more than 33 authors representing 20 African publishers."
According to the statement, this news was enthusiastically received by writers, readers, and cultural agents in Angola.
One of the authors, quoted in the statement, said it was "the fruit of many years of work and dedication to culture."
The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 26th of this year in Nairobi, Kenya, and will be attended by "personalities from the literary, cultural, and political circles of the African continent."
The winners will receive the Sankofa trophy, a certificate of international merit, and will have their works republished and distributed with the support of global media platforms," the statement states.
