New 1000 kwanzas banknotes went into circulation this Thursday

The 1000th note from the new kwanzas family came into circulation this Thursday, October 1st. This is the third banknote to enter into circulation in the country, after the 200 and 500 kwanzas banknotes were made available in July and September, respectively.

The new 1000 kwanzas notes became available in banks and multicaixas from the first hours of this Thursday, reveals Jornal de Angola.

With the introduction of this banknote, the new 2000 kwanzas banknote, expected to arrive on November 11th, and the 5000 kwanzas banknote, which should only enter into circulation in January 2021, are missing.

According to the BNA Communication Office, cited by the same newspaper, in the process of withdrawing money, despite the introduction of the new family of kwanzas, the Angolans will not fail to receive bills of 2000 and 5000 kwanzas.

However, he said that once the old notes enter the system they are no longer returned because "there is a timetable for withdrawing the notes from the 2012 series" which is being complied with, although for now the old and new notes circulate simultaneously.

The old notes will be in circulation until the end of 2021. From January 1, 2022, the old kwanzas family will no longer be accepted.

As for the timetable for the introduction of the notes, the BNA said that no date changes are planned for the time being.
