The Cazombo photovoltaic plant is expected to be completed in November of this year and will be capable of generating 25 megawatts of energy.
According to a statement from the Moxico Leste provincial government, which VerAngola had access to, construction work on "the province's second-largest electricity project, which will have the capacity to generate a total of 25 megawatts of clean, environmentally friendly energy," was recently confirmed by the Vice-Governor of Technical Services and Infrastructure of the Moxico Leste province, Mário Anderson Mutupa.
At the time, the official noted that, currently, "execution exceeds 28 percent, with completion scheduled for November of this year."
"Upon completion of the project, which has already created more than two hundred jobs for young Angolans, a total of 79,982 consumers in the town of Cazombo and surrounding communities will benefit," the statement reads.
But before the Cazombo photovoltaic plant opens, the Luau photovoltaic plant is scheduled to open.
According to Arnaldo Carlos, director of the electricity distribution company in Moxico, the Luau plant is expected to open next month. "The date is set for September. So far, we haven't received any communication that contradicts this date," he said, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).
Regarding the Cazombo plant, the official reiterated the November opening date: "Construction work at Cazombo is proceeding very quickly, and the inauguration of the Cazombo photovoltaic plant is scheduled for November, the month of our dipanda."
"In terms of household connections, we have 20,000 household connections for the municipality of Luau and 16,000 household connections for the municipality of Cazombo," he added.
According to RNA, the Luau photovoltaic park will bring energy to more than 20,000 homes, while the Cazombo plant will benefit 16,000 homes.
