New 500 kwanzas banknotes enter into circulation on the 17th

The 500th note from the new kwanzas family goes into circulation next September 17th, Thursday. This is the second new banknote to enter into circulation in the country, after the Banco Nacional de Angola (BNA) made the 200 kwanzas banknote available in July.

:

Sebastião Banganga, director of the BNA's Department of Transportation, explained that as the banknote goes into circulation on a holiday and therefore will be available first at the multicaixas and only then will it enter the commercial branches of the banks.

Cited by Jornal de Angola, he considered that all the conditions are met for the banknote to be available in the market and that there are no problems with the new family of kwanzas circulating simultaneously with the old banknotes.

Sebastião Banganga didn't reveal the exact number of banknotes that will be put into circulation, but he assured that there are enough banknotes to be introduced in a gradual way in the market: "We can't need the amount of banknotes to be introduced, so as not to alarm the market. What is certain is that the notes exist and are enough to be gradually introduced in the circuit. This measure aims to stop any inflation trends".

According to the director of the BNA's Circulating Environment Department, the old notes will be in circulation until the end of 2021. From 1 January 2022, the old kwanzas family will no longer be accepted.

The next banknote to be put on the market will be the 1000 kwanzas, and it is expected to start circulating from October 1st. On 11 November the 2000 banknote should enter into circulation and next year, in January, it is expected to introduce the 5000 kwanzas banknote.
