The spread of Covid-19 was one of the topics analyzed at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the UNITA Political Commission that took place on Tuesday under the guidance of the party's president, Adalberto da Costa Júnior, and which was attended by members of the Presidential Council and the Shadow Government.

In a statement released this Wednesday, the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) warned of the need for populations to observe “preventive care”, calling for the realization of campaigns for clarification and the creation of “urgent” all the human and technical conditions to defend Angolan lives, being ready to "cooperate" in the crusade against the coronavirus.

The meeting analyzed the party's calendar of activities for March and early April, namely the program of parliamentary days, which will take place between 11th and 13th of March in Cuanza Sul, and the central act of the celebrations of the 54 years of the foundation of the party, on March 14 at Sumbe, as well as the IV Ordinary Congress of LIMA (women's party organization) from April 1 to 3, 2020.

Aspects related to the country's political and socio-economic situation were also discussed, with UNITA leaders reiterating the need for reforms to the Constitution and the National Electoral Commission (CNE).

The meeting also left an appeal to Angolans to create "a national front for the institutionalization and effective functioning of municipalities, simultaneously in all municipalities in this year 2020".

The country's health authorities have not announced the registration of any case of Covid-19 in the country, and in Sub-Saharan Africa only Senegal (four cases) and Nigeria (one case) detected infections with the new coronavirus.
