Airport in Catumbela should be certified in the first quarter of next year

The Minister of Transport, Ricardo de Abreu, informed that the “Paulo Teixeira Jorge” International Airport, in Catumbela, should receive certification in the first quarter of next year.

:

"The airport plays a fundamental role in ensuring that from here in Catumbela not only connections for passenger flights, but also for cargo are guaranteed. The commitment regarding Catumbela airport is next year, in the first quarter of 2024, it will be duly certified", said the holder of the Transport portfolio, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola (RNA).

Ricardo de Abreu also said that the "teams are working and, for that reason", it is necessary to have all "services and infrastructures available to the economy".

After certification, according to the RNA, the airport infrastructure will register, per year, the movement of two million passengers and will serve more than 900 people per hour.

José Venâncio, representative of the Management Board of the Sociedade dos Aeroportos de Angola, speaking recently about the airport's certification, said that there is a set of things that must be done in this regard. "There are a range of things in the certification that will be done and must be done to be able to serve international flights," he said.

According to the person responsible, cited by RNA, this airport "only operated domestic flights (...)", exemplifying that "one of the things" that will have to be resolved is related to the "separation of traffic".

"If it was created just for a certain traffic, we now have to look at what is for the departure lounge, what is for the arrival lounge, therefore, the traffic cannot be mixed (...). Between these there are many other things that are in that are the tasks that we have to do," he added.
