Zimbabwe to build monument to honor fighters who died in Angola

The Vice President of Zimbabwe announced this Monday in Luanda that he will build a monument in honor of the Zimbabwean guerrillas who were killed in Angola, in the fight against 'Apartheids', as he has already done in Mozambique, Zambia and Tanzania.

Kembo Mohadi, speaking to the press at the end of the meeting with his Angolan counterpart, Esperança Costa, expressed the importance of a memorial to perpetuate the memory of the Zimbabwean guerrillas, recalling that in one day alone, 400 fighters died in training camps bombed by forces of the South African apartheid regime in the provinces of Moxico and Malanje.

"I intend to visit the places where our guerrillas received training, as well as the spaces where some of them were buried," said the Zimbabwean vice president, as quoted by Angop.

The Zimbabwean leader emphasized that his visit to the country also aims to assess the historical sites and "identify ways to advance the construction of the memorial, which symbolizes solidarity between peoples and liberation movements."

The monument will be erected based on an agreement between the two countries, with the aim of "recognizing the sacrifice of Zimbabwean soldiers in the defense of Angola's sovereignty."
