João Lourenço travels to Cape Verde for the investiture of José Maria Neves

The President of the Republic, João Lourenço, travels this Monday to Cape Verde, where he will attend the inauguration ceremony of the elected President of that country, José Maria Neves.

According to a note from the Civil House of the President of the Republic, the event will take place on Tuesday, in the city of Praia, capital of Cape Verde.

José Maria Neves, a 61-year-old university professor and former Cape Verdean prime minister, was elected in the first round in the presidential elections on October 17, with 51.5 percent of the vote, according to data from the provisional tabulation .

Supported by the African Independence Party of Cape Verde (PAICV), currently in opposition, José Maria Neves will be the fifth President of the Portuguese-speaking archipelago, succeeding Jorge Carlos Fonseca, who served his second and last term.
