The Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB) reported, in a statement to which VerAngola had access, that the rescue took place near the Mavinda School.

"On the evening of Monday, the 16th, the Intervention Guard on standby at the Menongue First Level Barracks was called to a rescue operation in the Boa-Vida neighborhood, near the Mavinda School, after a report of suspicious crying coming from a septic tank," the statement reads.

At the scene, the authorities confirmed that a newborn baby girl, approximately one day old, was in the tank.

"Upon arrival at the scene, the firefighters, in coordination with the National Police and with the support of the community, confirmed the presence of a newborn baby girl, approximately 24 hours old, at a depth of approximately two meters, partially submerged in septic waste," the statement says.

The baby, who was stable but had signs of hypothermia and bruises, was rescued at the scene.

"Although stable, the baby, who weighed 2.6 kilos, showed signs of hypothermia and bruises, and received initial care at the scene before being transported to the Cubango General Hospital, where she remains under observation and specialized neonatal care," the note adds.
