Austrian businessman wants to invest in Bengo. Agriculture and forestry sectors in his sights

The province of Bengo has attracted the interest of Thomas Kirchmayer, an Austrian businessman who will have a 50 million euros fund at his disposal to invest in the African continent. The businessman, who has his sights set on the agriculture and forestry sectors, revealed that the selection of the province in question was the result of a recommendation from the Angolan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, due to its potential to implement the projects that the fund is seeking.

According to Thomas Kirchmayer, who was speaking to the press after a meeting with the Vice-Governor of Bengo for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, the fund intends to invest in the agricultural sector, focusing on the production of corn, soybeans, sunflowers and beans.

He also said that he intends to invest in the production of fruits and their processing in this sector.

As for the forestry sector, the businessman, quoted by Angop, said that the purpose is to explore areas with fast-growing species for reforestation and use in the timber industry.

In addition to Angola, the fund managed by him also invests in Ethiopia and the Republic of Congo, said the businessman.

In turn, José Bartolomeu Pedro, Vice-Governor of Bengo for the Political, Economic and Social Sector, expressed support for the investment to become a reality: "We are here to give all the support so that this investment can be made and we can move from paper to action."

The Agriculture and Integrated Economic Development offices, he added, will begin identifying the municipalities that could possibly receive the investment, writes Angop.

"It is a very big improvement, demand is increasing, but we still have some situations that have to do with the business environment that needs to improve. Even so, we have received several companies and we have been spreading our message that the situation is improving so that they can invest in the country", said the president of the Angolan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Vicente Soares.
