Speaking at the opening of the second gala of the Ngana Zenza Foundation for Community Development, the First Lady of the Republic praised the "national and international dimension of the archbishop emeritus of Luanda, Dom Alexandre Cardeal do Nascimento", who died on 28 September, aged 99.
Quoted in a government statement, to which VerAngola had access, Ana Dias Lourenço considered the cardinal "an icon of Angolan history, a nationalist, patriot, convinced Christian, cultured man and friend of the poor".
The First Lady of the Republic also said that the cardinal was a "man of great spirituality" and "a fearless humanist in the causes of the common good".
"Our beloved Cardinal Dom Alexandre do Nascimento, a man of great spirituality, a fearless humanist in the causes of the common good, without looking at the differences between men, has departed for eternity", she said.
For the First Lady, the Cardinal was also a man devoted to the "gospel of Christ, defender of the faith, the Church and the Fatherland", the note reads.
"When reflecting on the words of our late Cardinal, I remember the following phrase: True greatness lies in service", she added.
The mentor and president of the Ngana Zenza Foundation also said that "it is with this inspiration that she commits to continue embracing the most vulnerable communities and believing that it is possible to transform reality, not only with actions, but with love and compassion".
On the occasion, Ana Dias Lourenço also said that the foundation remains committed to "providing communities with the tools and knowledge necessary to improve their lives in an autonomous and sustainable way, as well as promoting intergenerational relationships and solidarity".
"Our mission is to ensure that every Angolan, regardless of age, has the opportunities and resources necessary to achieve a better and more independent future," she said, quoted in another government note, to which VerAngola had access.
In addition to Ana Dias Lourenço, the head of state and his daughters Jéssica and Geovana also attended the event. The photographs show the good mood and charisma of the presidential family, as they appear with big smiles on their faces.
According to CIPRA, in a note to which VerAngola had access, at the gala, "among other moments that valued national gastronomy and artistic culture", the auction of paintings and haute couture pieces stood out, "marked by the generosity of the participants", whose the amount raised from sales will be used by the foundation to "fund the projects it develops in different areas".
In addition, a new initiative by the foundation was also announced, which is related to "promoting collective well-being and helping Angolan children with cancer".
The aforementioned gala was held under the motto "Believe, Embrace and Transform", bringing together partners, friends and curators of the foundation, founded by Ana Dias Lourenço in February 2020, and dedicated to "driving change in communities through financing and implementing specific actions, adapted to current needs, realities and challenges".
