Among the nearly 12,000 spectators in attendance, the President of Angola and the First Lady attended the inaugural ceremony, marked by a cultural moment featuring national artists. Of note was the presence of twenty percussionists led by master Dalú Roger, as well as a parade of mannequins in traditional costumes from each country, and the well-known music of Os Kalibrados and C4 Pedro.

At the opening ceremony, the Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, emphasized that Angola's participation not only seeks to regain the trophy, but also symbolizes the role of sport as a tool for unity and national affirmation, especially in the context of the fiftieth anniversary of independence.

He also linked the start of the competition to the celebration of International Youth Day (August 12) and emphasized the importance of this generation's talent and determination.

FIBA Africa President Aníbal Manaus praised Angola's choice as the venue for the Independence Jubilee sports festivities, considering the event an opportunity to strengthen the connection between African basketball and the country's history.

The evening ended beautifully with Angola's victory over Libya by a wide margin (85-53). Not even the game's interruption of over an hour (due to a clock malfunction) deterred the President and several other members of the Executive and government officials watching.

Angola has hosted Afrobasket four times, holding the record for most titles in the competition with 11. However, the last time the country won the competition was in 2013.
