According to Jovete Domingos, her client, detained since July 31st, has a high fever and requires medical attention. She urged the judicial authorities, especially the Attorney General's Office (PGR), to safeguard his right to life.
"We are very concerned about his health. (...) Mr. Catimba is ill, has high fevers, weakness, everything indicates malaria, and he also has hemorrhoids," she told Lusa.
Jovete Domingos also lamented the lack of response from the Public Prosecutor's Office magistrates assigned to the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) in Luanda regarding the health status of the ANATA official.
Rodrigo Luciano Catimba was detained in Benguela, three days after the start of protests and riots in several provinces following the taxi drivers' strike called by ANATA, and was later transferred to Luanda, where he is being held.
The Criminal Investigation Service announced at the time that Catimba was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence, defending crime, rebellion, and terrorism.
Regarding the reasons for his arrest, Jovete Domingos lamented that the ANATA official is being "unjustly" detained without any legal proceedings and without any coercive measures being applied.
"Therefore, we are eagerly awaiting the decision on our petition, in which we ask that the justice institutions act to restore his freedom," the lawyer concluded.
The ANATA president has also been detained since Friday due to "strong evidence" of promoting acts of vandalism and disorder against public and private property and services, the SIC announced.
