According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, which VerAngola had access to, the meeting between the head of state and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation accredited to Angola took place at the Presidential Palace.
"The diplomat represented the interests of the Russian Federation in Angola for about eight years," the statement reads.
In statements to the press after the meeting, the ambassador, who "will represent his country in Mozambique, said he leaves the country with great pride for having contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations."
In addition to highlighting the strengthening of bilateral relations, the diplomat stated that these relations have been built over many years based on the friendship and solidarity that bind the two countries and peoples, with a strong desire to develop them further.
Another aspect mentioned was João Lourenço's future visit to Russia, which, according to Vladimir Tararov, is currently being discussed.
Evaluating his time as ambassador to Angola positively, the Russian diplomat also highlighted the cultural exchange between the two peoples as a great gain.
In this regard, he revealed that a Russian Cultural Center will soon be opened in Angola and an Angolan center in Russia, the result of signed agreements, writes Angop.
"Angola will always be in my heart. I stayed not only for these years, but I was also a member of the Joint Political-Military Commission (CPPM) in 1992, as a peace guarantor for the Russian side, so I carry many memories of the country," he added.
