Completion of roads in the interior will "boost" the national economy, admits Minister of Public Works

The Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning, Manuel Tavares de Almeida, pointed out this Thursday that will give priority to the completion of road infrastructure in the interior of the country in order to "boost" the national economy.

In statements to journalists at the end of the speech on the State of the Nation, given in the National Assembly by the President, the minister pointed out that João Lourenço focused his intervention on the conclusion of the road sections under execution.

For Manuel Tavares de Almeida, the remaining lots to be concluded, namely the national road 100, via Cabo Ledo/ Lobito and the Cuema/Cussi section, in the province of Huambo, "are structuring for the national economy".

According to the minister, the sector he directs will also focus its activity on other roads, which he considers structuring, especially in the east of the country, the Dundo/Saurimo/Dala link and the Xá-Muteba/Dundo road.

"These are sections that have been in execution for some time, are important for our economy, are structuring," he stressed, adding that their conclusion is a priority.

In his speech, the President, João Lourenço, revealed that between October 2017 and September 2020 1248 kilometers of the primary road network were rehabilitated, 328 of which from October 2019 to September 2020.

During this period, he said, 188 kilometers of the secondary network were also rehabilitated.

"We would like to highlight the completion of the Cariango-Mussende, Maria Teresa-Dondo, Ondjiva-Cuamato, Cabo Ledo-Rio Longa and Sumbe-Rio Evale sections. From October 2017 to September 2020, 50 kilometers of urban roads, 3493 meters of final bridges and 676 meters of metal bridges were also rehabilitated," announced João Lourenço.
