In a speech on the State of the Nation that marks the opening of the parliamentary year, João Lourenço addressed the fight against corruption, which has been the banner of his executive, underlining the approval of fundamental diplomas and the various criminal and civil proceedings underway with some already res judicata.
The President stated that the state was injured by at least 24 billion dollars, which he revealed at the weekend in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, adding that this amount must be higher.
“We say at least because as the investigations of some processes and their protagonists are deepened, new things are discovered, and it is very likely that later on they will announce numbers much larger than this one, which, in itself, they already surpass Angola's debt with their main creditor ”, he stressed, at the National Assembly.
The chief executive estimated that about 4.9 billion dollars have already been recovered between real estate, money and other assets.
João Lourenço pointed out that the Court of Auditors reinforced the inspection actions on public accounts, which has allowed “to moralize the financial execution of the State”, reducing the margins for the practice of corruption, changing the perception inside and outside the country about this “Nefarious phenomenon”.
