Country created 19 thousand jobs, but registered 7 thousand dismissals in the first half of this year

The country created 19,000 jobs in the first half of 2020, when 7,000 redundancies and 14,000 suspensions of employment contracts were also registered, the President of the Republic announced this Thursday.

:

João Lourenço, who is speaking this Thursday about the State of the Nation at the opening of the parliamentary year, pointed out that the labour market "has been strongly shaken" due to the covid-19 pandemic, even though 19,000 workers found employment in the first semester through employment centers or in contact with companies.

Seven thousand redundancies and more than 14 thousand suspensions of employment were registered in the same period, especially in the services sector, commerce and industry, education and construction, he added.

According to the Chief Executive, more than 61 thousand young people were trained last year in vocational training schools and in the first half of this year more than 27 thousand young people were enrolled in these institutions.

High unemployment rates have been one of the main weaknesses of João Lourenço's government and have already taken hundreds of young people to the streets demanding the fulfillment of electoral promises to create 500 thousand jobs.

The last unemployment march, the fifth, took place on 25 September and brought together hundreds of young demonstrators in Luanda.

The President also highlighted the progress of the Integrated Plan of Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) which includes 1749 projects, of which 1200 are under construction, 12 are completed and 537 processes in progress, with financial execution exceeding 67 billion kwanzas.

As for the privatization program, he said that of the 195 assets, 40 are in the public tender phase and 14 have already been privatized, representing a proceeds of over 31 billion kwanzas.
