João Ima-Panzo, who was speaking this Wednesday in Luanda at the opening of the International Conference on Historical Archives of the CPLP States 2024, highlighted the strengthening of public policies as one of the challenges in the context of enhancing and preserving the cultural memory of the CPLP.
“There are several challenges, starting with public policies that require strengthening so that they can in fact meet citizens’ expectations on this matter, namely scientific research, but also as instruments that, in some way, support the administrative activity of any country”, said the official.
The director highlighted the functioning of the national archives of the CPLP member states, the capture of financial resources and qualified human resources as other generic challenges at the level of the regional bloc, believing that the meeting should provide reliable data on the state of the art and the quality of national archives.
According to Ima-Panzo, who spoke at the meeting on behalf of the CPLP Executive Secretary, “holding this conference is the result of a concerted effort and represents a decisive step in the consolidation of cooperation, preservation and management of the CPLP’s historical archives and is therefore undoubtedly a reflection of the (...) common desire to protect collective memory”.
In her speech, the Secretary of State for Culture, Maria da Piedade de Jesus, highlighted the importance of the meeting for strengthening cooperation, integration, cohesion and preservation of the cultural memory of the CPLP member countries.
“This meeting highlights the importance of developing sustainable public policies to strengthen institutions, namely management, accessibility, digitalisation and documentation, in addition to enhancing human capital”, she stressed.
In turn, the Secretary of State for Art and Culture of Timor-Leste, Jorge Soares Cristóvão, considered the conference an opportunity to strengthen historical, linguistic and cultural ties between the CPLP countries by promoting the exchange of programmes in the cultural and artistic area.
“Historical Archives and Sustainability: Public Policies in the CPLP” is the motto of this conference that runs until Thursday, in the auditorium of the National Archives of Angola, in Luanda.
