UAE President in Luanda for the first time with several agreements aligned

Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, arrived in Angola late Sunday afternoon for a 24-hour state visit at the invitation of João Lourenço. Cooperation between the two countries is the central theme of the visit, which includes the signing of agreements in areas such as energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital transformation.

Upon arrival at 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, the President was greeted by Téte António, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to the visit program, cited by MIREX, the Sheikh will be received this Monday at the Presidential Palace in Cidade Alta with military honors and 21 cannon salutes.

This is the first official visit by a head of state from the United Arab Emirates to Angola, following João Lourenço's visit to the Arabian Gulf in 2021.

The main objective of the president's visit is to consolidate partnerships in the economic, social, and humanitarian fields, as well as to sign new cooperation agreements. Sustainable investments, energy, infrastructure, healthcare, and digital transformation will be the areas on the table.

Among the highlights, according to Angop, is the negotiation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which began in 2023 and aims to reduce tariffs, facilitate market access, and create mutual investment platforms. It is considered a central instrument for deepening economic cooperation between the two countries.

The visit is also expected to consider the launch of new memoranda of understanding in areas such as solar energy, transportation, telecommunications, and digital transformation, in continuation of agreements previously signed between the two states.

Diplomatic relations between Angola and the United Arab Emirates were officially established in 1997, marking the beginning of a process of rapprochement that has been consolidated over the past two decades.
