Covid-19: Country adds eight more deaths and reaches over 48,000 positive cases

The country recorded eight more covid-19-associated deaths and 223 new positive cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 48,004, during which time 170 recoveries were also reported, health authorities announced Thursday.

The new positive cases were mostly registered in the province of Luanda (141), followed by the provinces of Benguela (18), Bié, Huíla and Huambo with 15 cases each, Zaire (6), Moxico (5), Uige (3), Cuando-Cubango (2), Lunda Sul (2) and Kwanza Norte with one case.

The province of Bié, south-central Angola, recorded the highest number of deaths in 24 hours, three in total, followed by the provinces of Benguela with two deaths and Huambo, Huila and Luanda with one death each.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, laboratories processed in this period 2603 samples by RT-PCR and the cumulative points to 918,761 processed samples with a positivity rate of 5.2 percent.

The health authorities report that 182 patients are hospitalized and 163 people are in institutional quarantine.

Angola, for more than a year in a situation of public calamity, now has a total of 48,004 positive cases, 3030 active, 1235 deaths and 43,739 recovered.
