Ondjiva General Hospital will open in two weeks

The Ondjiva General Hospital, in Cunene, will open in two weeks. The announcement was made by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, this Friday, when he spoke to the press, after having inaugurated the Cacuaco General Hospital.

On the occasion, the head of state took the opportunity to recall that the new hospital replaces the old one that was partially destroyed due to a fire in 2020.

In his words, cited by Angop, the President also recalled that the municipal hospital of Luau, in Moxico, also recently opened to replace another unit that was also destroyed by a fire.

Construction of the Ondjiva General Hospital began in 2021, in a project valued at 52 million euros (around 56 million dollars).

Located in the Naipalala III neighborhood, the future unit will have pediatric, emergency, stomatology, obstetrics, endoscopy, ophthalmology, simple and computerized x-ray and surgery services available. It will also have hemodialysis, an oxygen factory, a raft intended to house patients' families, psychiatry, among others.

Furthermore, according to Angop, the hospital will have capacity for 220 beds. With 26 blocks, the unit will have four inpatient units and four operating theaters.

Hemodialysis unit with 12 chairs, blood bank and psychiatric hospitalization and eight residences for doctors are also part of the unit.

Furthermore, the team of professionals who will ensure that the hospital functions is also already safeguarded, with 45 doctors carrying out specializations in various areas, both outside Cunene and locally.

Despite this, the Ministry of Health also mobilized some specialists with more experience in order to guarantee the services provided by the future hospital, and gradually, workers will be hired until the normal staff is filled, corresponding to more than 1300 professionals, writes Angop.
