At the inauguration, João Lourenço was accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço.

According to Angop, the President began his working day by watching a promotional video for the hospital unit. In addition, he also unveiled the inauguration plaque and gave a guided tour of the infrastructure.

The operation of the hospital now opened will be guaranteed by 1156 professionals. Sílvia Lutucuta, Minister of Health, in statements during the inauguration of the General Hospital of Cacuaco, informed that of the more than 1000 professionals, 157 are doctors, 503 are nurses and 260 are therapeutic diagnostic technicians.

Furthermore, she added, the hospital team also has 23 general regime technicians, 212 hospital support technicians, as well as six social workers.

Among the hospital's strengths, stands out the fact that it provides, in a single building, outpatient services in specialties such as chemotherapy, oncology and imaging, the latter of which has 18 inpatient areas.

According to Angop, the hospital unit – built on an area of six hectares – has a main building divided into emergency, logistics and laboratory blocks. Block B, with two floors, is intended for external consultations and block C, also with two floors, is intended for hemodialysis and rehabilitation patients.

In addition, the hospital also has five additional buildings: oncology, cafeteria, support for the technical area, morgue and laundry.

Regarding the hospital's capabilities, the minister of Health emphasized the variety and excellence of equipment in the various services, such as the presence of magnetic resonance imaging in public services, being the first modern plastimograph in the public and private sectors, writes Angop.

Among the highlights highlighted by the minister is also the oncology service, which has planning tomography technology, a room dedicated to handling cytostatics and a children's day unit for chemotherapy, which has 12 chairs, in addition to a wide range of support.

Sílvia Lutucuta, cited by Angop, considered that the hospital will certainly be a driver for the training of specialists in different areas of health, such as medicine, nursing, therapeutic diagnosis, and also for significant advances in scientific research.

She also said that they will continue to build a health system capable of meeting the needs of citizens: "We will continue to build a health system capable of solving the needs of our population, as our ambition is to expand the National Health Service, with the inauguration of this general hospital being a concrete example of the absolute priority that the Executive is progressively implementing in providing the population with access to efficient, local health care, contributing to sustainable development and continuous improvement in the quality of life of all citizens".

She also applauded the benefits that the new hospital unit will bring by reducing the number of patients who need to be transferred abroad, ensuring the provision of medium and high complexity services, and said she believes that with these working conditions, professionals will provide patients with care with high technical and scientific quality, demonstrating humanism and respect.

It is worth remembering that the hospital began to be built in 2021, with Vamed being responsible for the project, which, according to Angop, cost 139,216,000 euros (around 152 million dollars).

With a life span of 50 years, the hospital will undergo rehabilitation every two years.

The opening of this hospital is also welcomed by residents, who now have their lives easier, without needing to travel long distances in search of medical assistance.
