The backyard of the Óscar Ribas Museum House is filled with books to encourage reading

The backyard of the Óscar Ribas Museum House is transformed, every last Friday of each month, into an open-air library. The project aims to stimulate and create reading habits in the population of that area.

The Open Air Library initiative was created by the management of the Casa Museu Óscar Ribas and is ruled by the motto "A country is made with men and books".

Sidónio Domingos, director of the House Museum, quoted by Expansão, made it known that the project aims to stimulate and create reading habits in the population of the District of Ingombota.

He added that the initiative is aimed at children, who need to be in contact with books and be encouraged to read.

Sidónio Domingos considered that the responsibility of bringing books to the population cannot fall entirely on the Government and defended that the municipal libraries should be reactivated.

The creation of more structures of this kind, in Sidónio Domingos' eyes, does not solve the problems: "We must also create thematic, dynamic, and more interactive cultural programs to attract the reading public", he underlined.
