Country will analyze the possibility of producing vaccines against covid-19

Angola will analyze the possibility of producing vaccines against covid-19. At the summit on financing African economies, which took place in Paris, the Angolan government considered it necessary to change the strategy of producing drugs against covid-19.

"It was launched the motto for reflection around giving up the intellectual licenses [of vaccines] so that it is possible to relocate technology and knowledge to some regions of Africa, so that, with local production, we can better meet demand," clarified Vera Daves, Minister of Finance, speaking to Euronews.

About the possible production of vaccines in Angola, the minister said that it is necessary to "make a self-assessment" of the country's logistical capacity "to host and the teams to receive this transfer of knowledge.

However, she informed that the possibility of the country starting to produce vaccines is not discarded: "We do not discard this possibility".

For his part, the Portuguese prime minister, António Costa, who also attended the summit, asserted that the covid-19 pandemic has changed the world panorama. The pandemic "made it clear that never have Europe and Africa been so close together and so dependent on each other because none of us will be safe until we are all vaccinated."

"On the other hand, the economic recovery of each one will be greater if it is accompanied by the economic recovery of all," said António Costa, stressing that there must be global solidarity.

At the summit, a first financial support to African countries was determined, budgeted at 33 billion dollars.

The summit on financing African economies, held in Paris, was attended by African and European leaders, including the President of the Republic, João Lourenço.
