Data from the Epidemiological Surveillance System of the National Directorate of Public Health of Angola, which Lusa had access to on Monday, reveal that the country has registered a total of 403 new cases of cholera in the last five days, an average of 80 cases per day, when previously more than 100 cases were reported per day.
In the last 24 hours, the country reported 67 new cases and no deaths, a trend that has continued in recent days.
Between January and May of last year, for example, nine people died every day in Angola, on average, from cholera, since the first case was reported on January 7.
Currently, according to data from the last 24 hours, Angola has 26,723 infections and 751 deaths in 18 of the country's 21 provinces.
The highest cases of cholera were recorded in the provinces of Luanda (6917), Benguela (4717), Bengo (3064) and Namibe with 2658 infections.
