Luanda: cleanup operators promise to end garbage heaps in 30 days

The days of garbage piles in the capital are over: representatives of Sambiente and Jump Bussiness International, Lda, two of the companies that won the public tender held by the Provincial Government of Luanda (GPL), promised to put an end to garbage piles in Luanda within 30 days.

According to a note posted on Facebook of GPL, the officials revealed, this Monday, April 12, on the program 'Kiandando' of Radio Luanda, that a continuous work is being done to "put an end to the sources of garbage scattered throughout the province of Luanda.

According to Albino Tomás, director of the Quality, Health and Environment Office of Sambiente, the company started operating on April 3. "At this moment the company is focused on reducing the garbage piles with the help of the local administration, which has already identified the biggest garbage piles in the municipality of Viana, either at the level of the urban districts of Viana and Zango, as well as at Avenida Deolinda Rodrigues," the note said.

Albino Tomás assured that "in a period of 21 to 30 days at the most" the garbage spots in Viana will cease to exist. He also emphasized that as of next week, garbage containers will begin to be placed in the places that do not have them yet, explaining that "it was not possible to place them before, because it was necessary to conduct, first of all, a study to evaluate the behavior of the flow of residues in each point, thus avoiding that the containers were swallowed by the garbage, as has been seen in certain places.

In his turn, João Nelson, general manager of Jump Bussiness International, Lda, "established a period of 30 days to leave the municipality of Belas cleaner and seven days for the centrality of Kilamba, because his company started to operate in the waste collection a week ago".

The responsible recognized that there is "a very big affliction among the citizens because of the garbage" and assured that "everything will be done for the elimination of the garbage piles in the municipality of Belas".

Recall that in late March, GPL announced that the garbage in the capital would now be collected by seven companies.
