Indicating that the country had "a big gap" in this matter, the Health Minister explained that the agency will allow better control of prices and quality of medicines.

"We had a big gap, but through this regulatory authority we will be able to have greater control," she assured, warning that supervision will be tightened, especially "for the sale of medicines on the market.

Quoted in a statement published on the government's Facebook page, the minister said that with the agency's entry into operation, the Ministry of Health's National Directorate of Medicines will cease to exist.

"The National Directorate of Medicines and Equipment is transformed into an Agency, with the transfer of all assets and human resources," she indicated, adding that this advance will allow the sector to be "aligned with the guidelines and regulations of the World Health Organization the African Union."

The minister also admitted that the country needed to "take important steps in the national drug industry."

"The Executive is creating conditions to attract private investment, domestic and foreign, to start up the drug factories. It is a process," he concluded.

Recall that the Government gave the green light this Wednesday to the creation of a Medicines and Health Technology Regulatory Agency.
