"The National Bank of Angola, within the scope of its role as issuing bank, informs the general public that it has put into circulation new notes in denominations of 1000 and 2000 kwanzas", says the regulatory bank, in a statement, to which VerAngola had access.
The BNA clarifies that these new notes maintain the "same characteristics and security elements" as the notes that are already in circulation. The differences, adds, relate to the signature of the BNA governor and the date of issue.
"The aforementioned notes have the same characteristics and security elements as the current notes in circulation, with only some characteristics visible to the public being changed, namely the signature of the Governor of the National Bank of Angola and the date of issue", it reads in the note.
It is worth remembering that a proposal was approved that aimed to remove the face of the former President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos, from the new banknotes issued in 2020.
After that, the new family of kwanzas came into circulation gradually, with the 2020 series currently in circulation.
