The fourth ordinary plenary meeting of the Angolan Parliament took place this Thursday, in which the so-called “2020 Series” of kwanza banknotes was authorized to enter into circulation in the first half of this year, ANGOP said. As was already known, the notes have a new design, only with the face of António Agostinho Neto, first President of Angola, to the detriment of José Eduardo dos Santos, who also appeared in the previous edition.
There will be new notes in the values of 200, 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 and 10,000 kwanzas, illustrated with the face of the founder of the nation and also with the natural wonders of Angola.
The Black Stones of Pungo Andongo (Malanje) will be on the 200 kwanza note, the Tundavala Rift (Huíla) will be on the 500 note and the Cordillera do Planalto Central (Huambo) will be on the 1000 kwanza note. Serra da Leba (Huíla) will be part of the 2000 kwanza banknote, while the Ruins of the Cathedral of São Salvador do Congo (Zaire) are included in the 5000 kwanza banknote and the Zenzo Caves (Uíge) will illustrate the 10,000 kwanza banknote.
The new banknotes will be safer, with characteristics that make it difficult to counterfeit, as well as polymer (plastic) substrates that will make them more resistant than paper, currently in circulation.
At this session of parliament, the laws on Undercover Actions for the purposes of Criminal Prevention and Investigation, Cell Identification or Location and Electronic Surveillance for the purposes of Criminal Prevention and Repression, of the Environmental Conservation areas and the Code of Conduct were also unanimously approved.
