The project's inauguration took place this Sunday, attended by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, and attended by the Provincial Governor of Bié, Celeste Elavoco David Adolfo.
This project, which represents another significant step in the ongoing energy transition, according to Prodel, occupies an area of 24.73 hectares and is equipped with 28,125 solar panels, being managed by national teams. The infrastructure, whose construction began in January 2023, generated 170 direct jobs.
The Cuito Solar Photovoltaic Park will prevent the emission of polluting gases into the atmosphere and emissions of approximately 30,240 tons of CO2 per year, also saving 172,000 liters of fuel annually.
In terms of social responsibility, the project provided a four-room school and pedagogical and administrative services for the Kunje commune, in the Kassoma neighborhood, with a capacity for 50 students per classroom. It also provided a recycling and furniture manufacturing workshop that trained 50 young people and produced all the furniture for the newly delivered school.
Also as part of the trip to Bié, João Baptista Borges officially launched the Bié rural electrification project, which took place in the municipality of Andulo. This infrastructure, with a 36-month completion period, will provide electricity to over 200,000 residents, providing over 45,000 household connections. Two stand-alone systems and three grid-connected systems will be built. The installed capacity will be 39.15 MWp.
