Quoted by Angop, the head of the Culture portfolio informed that the government decided to start work so that this site located in Tômbua, in the province of Namibe, is recognized as a cultural heritage of humanity and is included on the UNESCO list.

On the occasion, he recalled that, at this moment, Angola has two World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO: Mbanza Kongo and the Sona, since 2017 and 2023, respectively.

Furthermore, Filipe Zau also spoke about Bentiaba's prison. According to the minister, although it is still occupied by prisoners, this prison remains a place of historical interest.

Thus, he said that the next steps to be taken are being studied, since, from the perspective of historical memory, this place has considerable value, especially related to the struggle for liberation, in which many people were arrested for participating in the fight for the country's independence.

"We want to see how, through the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, we can work so that this part of the chain that is most available can be visited by tourists and have some other type of activity of historical and heritage interest", added Filipe Zau, quoted by Angop.

According to a statement from the Vice-Presidency of the Republic, to which VerAngola had access, the meeting "essentially addressed the current status of the Draft Regulation of the Participatory Management Committee of the Historic Center of Mbanza Kongo, the Proposed Implementation Report of the Recommendations of the World Cultural Heritage Committee on Mbanza Kongo and the State of Play of the Cultural Heritage of the Province of Namibe".
