Angola resumes flights to seven southern African countries temporarily banned

The government lifted the restriction of flights to the seven countries of the southern region, imposed due to the new variant of the Omicron coronavirus, informed the multisectoral commission to combat covid-19.

The information was provided by the Minister of State and head of the House of Security of the President of the Republic, Francisco Pereira Furtado, in the update of a few articles of the presidential decree on the state of public calamity, which runs from 30 November to 5 January of 2022.

The coordinator of the multi-sectorial commission to combat and prevent covid-19 noted that from this Wednesday, the air connection to Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Essuatini and Malawi, temporarily banned due to the Ómicron variant, will be open. .

According to the official, 15 days after the measure was taken, the health authorities confirmed that the new variant was already available in around 40 countries, not only in Africa, but in Europe and other continents.

According to Francisco Furtado, any citizen coming or having transited in these countries or in any other country where the variant is circulated in the community is obliged to observe a 14-day home quarantine, regardless of the stage of immunization.

"This means that even if the citizen has taken two doses of the vaccine, as long as he comes from the aforementioned countries or in transit in those countries or another where the variant travels when arriving in Luanda, passing through the testing center at the 4 de Fevereiro International Airport is communicated and registered, collected its location, so that it can comply with a period of home quarantine of 14 days", he referred.

If they test positive, added Francisco Pereira Furtado, people from these countries are subject to an institutional quarantine, under the terms defined by the country's health authorities.

"Violation of home quarantine by any national or foreign citizen is sanctioned with a fine ranging between Kwanzas 250,000 and Kwanzas 350,000, in addition to transforming the fine into institutional quarantine", he stressed.

The new presidential decree also lifts the restrictions on scheduled flights to and from India, from 1 January 2022, with the competent ministerial departments being responsible for defining the gradual cadence of frequencies.

Generally speaking, presidential decree No. 280/21 maintains valid measures that refer to recreational, cultural and leisure activities on public roads or in public spaces.

The government official stressed that it has been verified that with the stabilization of the epidemiological situation, "there is a relaxation and even a certain indiscipline of the citizens", violating the rules of coexistence in public places and in open spaces.

Museums, theatres, monuments and the like, as well as media libraries and libraries remain open until 20:00, with up to 50 percent of their capacity.

For religious activities, the same rules are maintained, with mandatory use of masks, physical distance, limited capacity up to 50 percent of capacity. The beaches remain closed, as well as swimming pools and marinas.
