TAAG suspends connections to South Africa, Mozambique and Namibia

The national airline TAAG suspended its air connections with Mozambique, Namibia and South Africa, promising to return passengers from these countries as soon as possible.

The suspension of flights follows measures adopted by the Multisectoral Commission for Prevention and Combat to Covid 19, which suspended air connections for passengers from South Africa, Botswana, Essuatini, Lesotho, Namibia, Mozambique and Zimbabwe, to try to contain the propagation of the new variant of the coronavirus, known as Omicron.

Thus, from 00:00 all flights to Johannesburg and Cape Town (South Africa), Maputo (Mozambique) and Windhoek (Namibia) are suspended until further instructions, according to a statement from TAAG that guarantees it is working with the national authorities to allow the return of passengers.

Angola announced on Saturday that it would close borders with seven African countries - South Africa, Botswana, Essuatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe - from 1 December, with nationals from these countries subject to a house quarantine of 14 days.

Several countries, including Portugal, have already applied flight restrictions with several African countries after the new flight was detected.
