BAI Foundation opens gallery and exhibition in Cazenga to bring art to communities

An art gallery, as well as an exhibition, were inaugurated this Thursday by the BAI Foundation at the Centro de Animação Artística do Cazenga – ANIMART. This inauguration is part of the ‘Arte nas Comunidades’ project, which aims to take art to peripheral regions, allowing the promotion of easy access to different forms of artistic expression within communities.

In a statement sent to VerAngola, the foundation explains that to create the art gallery, which will be the residence of four artists, requalification and improvement works were carried out at the Centro de Animação Artística do Cazenga, "in an investment promoted within the scope of the 'Arte nas Comunidades', from the BAI Foundation, which aims to democratize access to culture, bringing exhibitions and dynamic artistic experiences directly to local communities, especially those with fewer opportunities to visit museums or galleries".

Thus, the Centro de Animação Artística do Cazenga will be an artistic residence for four artists, namely Domingos da Silva, Abel Camosso, Paulo Quimbala and Even de Fátima. In addition, it will also house an exhibition consisting of 16 works by Sander Telo, which will last a month and can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 11am to 4pm.

As part of the inauguration ceremony, Inokcelina de Carvalho, president of the Board of Directors (PCA) of the BAI Foundation, said that this is the foundation's second gallery, after having opened the first art gallery and artistic residency in July this year, at the Kassemba Terra Preta Cultural Center, located in Cassequel.

"Being here is a great honor. It is our second gallery, of a project that is expected to last a lifetime. We intend to continue taking culture where it needs to be: in the communities. There is a lot of seed here that can bear fruit. And the fact that this seed exists means that there is love for art. What we bring with this gallery is just a complement to this seed and this love for art", said Inokcelina de Carvalho, quoted in the statement.

"Our purpose and mission is to grow the visual arts, performing arts, photography, among others, which allow us to rescue the past, establish the present and project the future. And, to prepare what we hope for tomorrow, there is nothing better than having children involved too", said the foundation's PCA, expressing the desire to "be the beginning of a long partnership" with the Centro de Animação Artística do Cazenga.

In turn, Orlando Domingos, representative of the Centro de Animação Artística do Cazenga – ANIMART, said that they welcome the BAI Foundation with "open arms".

"We welcome the BAI Foundation with open arms. We will share ideas and build a partnership. I believe that today we begin to build what will be the future partnership with the BAI Foundation", he said, adding: "We are part of the Cazenga community which, for those who don't know it, has its share of problems. But, in truth, it is a place of love and welcome. In Cazenga we have our own way of being, but we are very welcoming. This is a space that will give love, care, love and satisfaction".

The 'Arte na Comunidades' project aims, through the transformation of artistic, community centers and libraries, to "create a positive and lasting impact on the cultural identity and sense of belonging of communities".

Furthermore, the note adds, through exhibitions, presentations and other interactive activities, the project also aims to "stimulate creativity and interest in art among communities, and identify and support local talents, offering platforms for emerging artists can showcase their work and develop their skills", also assuming the mission of strengthening "social ties and promoting cultural inclusion, fostering an environment of dialogue, mutual understanding and social cohesion".
