Heads of State from Cape Verde, São Tomé and Ethiopia confirmed at the Luanda Biennial

The Heads of State of Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe and Ethiopia, the vice-president of Namibia and the prime minister of Equatorial Guinea will participate in the 3rd Luanda Biennial, which starts on Wednesday, the organization announced.

The information was provided by the spokesperson for the Multisectoral Commission of this third forum for the culture of peace in Africa, Neto Júnior, which takes place between the 22nd and 24th of November in the capital.

The official noted that the presence of the President of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, the President of the Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, Carlos Vila Nova, the President of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work, has been confirmed for the 3rd Luanda Biennial Zewde, as well as the Vice President of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, and the Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Manuela Rocca Botei.

For the 3rd Luanda Biennale, whose opening speech should be given by President João Lourenço, four advisors from the African Union (AU) are also confirmed, former African heads of state, namely Olosengo Obasanjo, from Nigeria, Joaquim Chissano, from Mozambique and Joice Banda, from Uganda.

The Luanda Biennial aims to promote the prevention of violence and conflicts, through cultural exchange between African countries and intergenerational dialogue, with this year's motto "Education, Culture of Peace and African Citizenship as Tools for Sustainable Development of the Continent".

The event, which is the result of a partnership between the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the Angolan government and the UA, will feature government and civil society officials, the artistic and scientific community, as well as international organizations.

This edition features 20 international speakers and 10 national speakers, including heads of State and Government, advisors from the African Union, president of the African Union Commission Azali Assoumani, AU commissioners, deputy director-general of UNESCO, ministers, representatives of ecclesiastical institutions, young Angolans, Africans and those from the African diaspora, he highlighted.

According to Neto Júnior, the forum will feature in-person and virtual participation and parallel activities are also planned, such as the 1st National Ecumenical Conference on the Rescue of Moral, Civic and Religious Values organized by the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA).

The deepening of the sharing of visions on the culture of peace, security, African citizenship, democracy on the continent, the articulation with the African Union for the preparation and implementation of the continent's activities inherent to peace and reconciliation in Africa and the development of work with the UNESCO to promote education, defend science and disseminate art in favor of strengthening the culture of peace are some of the results that the biennial aims to achieve.

"The technical, human and logistical conditions have been created for the success of the 3rd Luanda Biennial, an important platform for promoting peace dialogue, education, intergenerational dialogue, pan-Africanism and for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030", the event's spokesperson also assured.

Dance, music and artistic-cultural exhibitions will also fill the agenda of this third edition of the Luanda Biennial.
