Handball: ‘Pérolas de África’ start fight for 15th African champions title against Algeria

Angola has its debut in the African Cup of Nations (CAN) of Handball for this Thursday, November 10, the day on which the senior women's national team of the modality will start with its dispute for the 15th title of African champion in a game against to Algeria.

The inaugural game of the 'Pérolas de África' in the competition – which will take place from the 9th to the 19th of November in Senegal – takes place at 6 pm local time (another hour in Angola).

According to Angop, the Angolan and Algerian teams have already met on the field, with the first match taking place in the 2018 edition, in Congo, where the national team was victorious (41-17).

In the preliminary phase, Angola returns to the field on Sunday, November 13, to play against Cape Verde and on the following day, November 14, they play against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with matches scheduled for 4 pm and 6 pm local time, respectively.

In the competition, Angola is part of group A, also made up of the teams from Algeria, DRC and Cape Verde.

It is recalled that last year, the national team was crowned African champion of the modality after having won the selection of Cameroon.

According to Angop, the athletes Teresa Almeida, Helena de Sousa and Marta Alberto were summoned to the position of goalkeeper; for pivots the players Liliane Mário, Estefânia Venâncio and Liliana Venâncio; Helena Paulo, Isabel Guialo and Marília Quizelete will occupy the position of center; Wuta Dombaxe, Juliana Machado and Suzete Matias are the right-backs, while Stélvia Pascoal and Magda Cazanga are the left-backs. As right wingers are athletes Dolores Rosário and Natália Fonseca and left wingers are Natália dos Santos and Marcela Tati.
