Half a year later South Africa reopens borders. Angola can travel without restrictions

Half a year after the displacements between Angola and South Africa were suspended due to covid-19, the country decided to reopen, this Thursday, its borders. In order to recover travel gradually, South Africa has drawn up a list of countries considered "high risk" and which are subject to restrictions. Angola was left off the list, thus allowing it to travel without constraints.

In a press release from the Angolan Embassy in Pretoria, cited by Angop, Naledi Mandisa Pandor, South Africa's minister of international relations and cooperation, said the list was made based on criteria of the World Health Organization, which categorizes countries by three levels of risk (low, medium, high).

According to the authorities of that country, Angola was left out of the list composed by 57 countries considered "high risk". This list, which includes countries such as India, France, Russia, Netherlands, Puerto Rico, United States of America, Venezuela, Romania, Qatar, Trinidad and Tobago, Great Britain, among others, the South African government is not accepting the entry of "leisure travelers".

"Anyone wishing to travel to South Africa for business or pleasure must have travel insurance and perform mandatory PCR tests within the last 72 hours before departure from their home country," explained the South African government, adding that travellers from African countries will be given priority.

When passengers land in South Africa they will be tested at covid-19. Those who have tested positive will be subject to quarantine for a period of 10 days.

Three airports will be open in South Africa: OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg in Gauteng, Cape Town International Airport in West Cab and King Shaka Airport in Durban/Kwazulu Natal.

South Africa closed borders, schools, commerce, among others in March and six months later is returning to normal with the gradual reopening of the country.
