"Catoca Mining Society Lda., the country's largest diamond mining company, responsible for more than 60 percent of Angola's total diamond production, was recognized in the United Kingdom with the Corporate Social Responsibility and Community Development Award in Africa. This event took place in London last Thursday, July 10th, specifically in the British Parliament (House of Lords), organized by African Leadership Magazine, one of the most prestigious platforms for recognizing and promoting best management practices in the public and private business sectors on the African continent," the company said in a statement seen by VerAngola.
According to Benedito Paulo Manuel, general manager of Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, this award reinforces the company's conviction that it is on the right track.
"This award reinforces our conviction that we are on the right path, that our commitment to social, economic, and environmental sustainability, more than just a charm, has a significant impact on the lives of thousands of families, helping them build new perspectives in life that generate development," said Benedito Paulo Manuel.
Thus, the company says it is proud to "be the largest private economic agent in the eastern region of Angola."
"For this and many other reasons, Catoca Mining Society is proud to be the largest private economic agent in the eastern region of Angola, generating thousands of jobs, as well as developing a diverse range of social programs and initiatives in the areas of health, education, fighting hunger and poverty, housing, youth, and sports," the statement reads.
According to the organization, the company's nomination in this category "reflects the recognition of the readers of African Leadership Magazine and the general public, who are aware of the scale and scope of this company's social programs and their impact on the lives of thousands of people."
The event was attended by "distinguished African leaders and famous figures from various sectors of London society, notably the former president of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, ministers and provincial governors from African countries, as well as members of the House of Lords".
