First 100 container cars arrive in the country to transport copper and sulfur between Angola and the DRC

The Lobito Atlantic Railway (LAR) — which manages the Lobito Corridor — has received its first batch of container cars. Designed for rail transport, these new cars will play a key role in transporting copper, sulfur, and other commodities between Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

In a statement sent to VerAngola, LAR reported that it received, this Tuesday, the "first 100 container cars designed for rail transport."

"Delivered aboard a COSCO vessel, these cars are part of the first batch of a total order of 275 units supplied by the China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC)," LAR said, adding that this milestone reinforces its commitment to "expanding freight transport capacity and consolidating international logistics along the railway line."

According to the company, these new cars, manufactured by CRRC, will play "a key role in the transportation of copper, sulfur, and other commodities" between Angola and the DRC.

"The cars now received will be put into immediate operation, supporting international freight traffic and reinforcing Angola's position as a strategic logistics platform in Southern Africa, contributing to regional economic development," the statement reads.

LAR also reports that this investment is part of the company's broader strategy of "modernizing railway infrastructure, increasing operational efficiency and promoting cross-border trade in the region."
