The information was provided this Wednesday by the promoters of the march, which aimed to complain about the difficult living conditions of the population and set a date for the first local elections in Angola, scheduled for this year and meanwhile postponed due to lack of conditions, including the covid-19 pandemic.

The report of the demonstration, released this Wednesday in a press conference, states that the citizens identified by 'Mamã África' and Marcelina Joaquim died "shot dead" during the protests.

According to José Gomes Hata, one of the promoters of the demonstration, more than 50 citizens were brutally assaulted and injured, among them activists Geraldo Dala, who was seriously wounded in the head, having taken ten points, the secretary of UNITA in Mussulo, the political party that supported the demonstration, who was shot in the right arm, and Dito Dalí, "who was savagely beaten and lost his senses.

One day after the demonstration, the organizers traveled to Luanda's main police stations to locate the citizens who are missing and only located 41 detainees in the Provincial Directorate of Criminal Investigation, 45 in the 9th station of the urban district of Sambizanga and 18 in the Uíge district, in the urban district of Ngola Kiluanje, making a total of 103 citizens, a number confirmed by the authorities.

José Gomes Hata pointed out that the arrest of 103 demonstrators, who are being tried, is illegal and arbitrary, stating that they were exercising their constitutionally enshrined right to meet and demonstrate.

The organization also considered the detention of journalists during the demonstration to be illegal and arbitrary, claiming that they were exercising the freedom of the press and the right to information.

"Their arrests not only imply a disregard for fundamental rights and freedoms, but also a genuine disregard for the rule of law and democracy on the part of the Angolan authorities," the report said.

The organization "not only demands the immediate and unconditional release of all citizens who are detained, but also holds President João Lourenço responsible for the whereabouts of the missing Angolan citizens".

In the document, the promoters declare that they will continue to protest until their rights are guaranteed and their demands are met.

"Therefore, we would like to congratulate the bravery and courage shown by the citizens who managed to resist police violence. We would also like to congratulate the political parties that responded to the invitation and joined the cause for citizenship," the report stresses.
