"The possible date for the summit is July 17, 2021, as it is the day when the 25th anniversary of the CPLP is celebrated," said Ambassador Francisco Ribeiro Telles in a statement to Lusa, stating that "this is the day that is being discussed among the member states.

The summit, which is held every two years, usually in July, was supposed to take place this year, and was postponed, at the request of the host country Angola, to July 2021.

Until now, no concrete date had been set for holding what is the organization's most important meeting, at which Cape Verde will end its rotating presidency of the organization and Angola will take over the CPLP's destinations for two years.

Cape Verde's Minister of Foreign Affairs announced at the time that the country would extend the rotating presidency of the CPLP until 2021, following a proposal from Angola.

Initially, Angola requested a postponement of the date to September of this year, but later decided to request a further postponement until July 2021.

The organization's member states are Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.
