Covid-19: Angola with 263 more cases and two deaths in the last 24 hours

The country has registered 263 cases of covid-19 and two deaths in the last 24 hours, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, announced this Monday, totaling the country 9644 infected and 270 dead since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new cases were detected in the provinces of Luanda (166), Benguela (32), Namibe (32), Cabinda (14), Huíla (9), Kwanza-Norte and Zaire (7, each) and Lunda Norte and Kwanza Sul (1, each), aged between 1 and 88 years, said the Secretary of State during the daily epidemiological review to update data on covid-19.

Of these, 181 are male and 82 are female.

As for the two deaths, both Angolan, they were registered in Benguela province and were 67 and 88 years old.

Franco Mufinda added that there are 22 more recoveries compared to the data presented on Sunday.

Angola has a total of 9644 infected, with 3530 recovered, 270 deaths, and 5844 active patients, including 16 in critical condition, 29 severe, 130 moderate, and 402 mild.

In the last 24 hours, 2696 samples were processed, in a cumulative total of 147,279 samples, with the health authorities monitoring 4071 contacts.

The Secretary of State for Public Health recalled the measures announced last Friday by the Presidency, including the limitation of market hours, restaurants, as well as the holding of shows.

Franco Mufinda stressed that pilgrimages are forbidden and that, when it comes to gatherings, "home gatherings of up to 15 people" and "only five people on the public road" are allowed.

As for funerals, the governor pointed out that 10 people are allowed in "funerals that have in their base causes other than covid-19", while if the cause of death is related to the illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the funeral ceremonies are limited to five people.

In Africa, there are 41,262 confirmed deaths in more than 1.7 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent pandemic statistics on the continent.

The covid-19 pandemic has already caused more than 1.1 million deaths and more than 43 million cases of infection worldwide, according to a balance sheet made by the French agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected at the end of December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
