Government retreats in classroom teaching activity and suspends preschool

The government decided to back down the rules for classroom teaching activities due to the increase in the number of cases of covid-19, and suspended the resumption on an optional basis for pre-school education.

:

The previous law on the situation of public calamity foresaw the possibility of resuming, on Monday, pre-school education on an optional basis, but the Government opted for the prohibition, a decision that will be applied in Angolan schools or in international schools "which are obliged to suspend the presence activity "in this level of education.

The new law also introduces the "principle of cooperation between the education system and health authorities in international schools, since the teaching activity must be done in consultation with the competent authorities", stressed the minister.

Children between the 1st and 5th grades (primary education) continue to be exempt from the classroom teaching activity, while teaching activities for grades between the 6th and 13th grades, as well as higher education, continue to be "especially recommended to monitor the epidemiological situation".

"If it deteriorates, the competent authorities can pronounce themselves in the sense of a change in this area, and it is recommended that the path to semi-face-to-face classes be started, especially in higher education", stressed Adão de Almeida.
