Luanda with more color: Verkron paints mural in tribute to youth resilience

Friedrich Engels street, in the capital, has gained a new face: the Verkron group of artists has transformed a 27-meter wide wall into an urban art mural that aims to pay tribute to the resilience of young people.

The painting, which is complete since last Tuesday, October 6, is "a tribute to the resilience of young people, thirsty for exploring the city's environments and consuming the culture and urban emotions", can be read in a statement sent to VerAngola.

Painted on a wall 27 meters wide and 3 and a half meters high, the work is by the Verkron artistic group (composed by national artists Irad, Resem, Mac, Jafeth and Hemak) and was offered to Luanda by Beefeater Pink, Beefeater's new gin.

The trade marketing manager of Pernod Ricard and responsible for the communication of the gin brand, Joana Wilson, revealed that this mural arose from the desire to "celebrate the attitude of young Angolans who, regardless of the challenges they are subject to in their daily lives, value our urbanity.

"They are young people who put culture, art, environment, entrepreneurship, diversity and coexistence between past and present in the center of their attention. Thanks to this way of being, absolutely aligned with the values of Beefeater Pink, it is also these young people who contribute to make Luanda increasingly attractive, both among us and outside the country," she said.

As for the choice of the group of artists, Joana Wilson explained that "the Verkron personalize our urban explorers and therefore we could not have chosen anyone else to create this work of art that we are so proud of, which makes the city even more beautiful".

The artistic group made it known that the main idea of this project was "to represent the enormous energy of the black female presence that hovers over us all".

"We worked around the black figure, afro-centered, as a way of awakening some sensitivity to what, in our view, is at this moment part of an ongoing revolution, of something much bigger that you are either part of, or simply can't oppose," the group indicated.

Affirming that it was very good to be part of this project, Verkron underlined that from the first day it was a challenge to represent "such a European brand". However, the challenge was overcome: "It was challenging, from the first moment, to represent a brand with such a European aesthetic, cold, completely different from that warm Kaluanda aesthetic, and in the middle of the process to be amazed by that welcoming without borders, warm by people. You have the feeling of duty fulfilled".
