According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, that VerAngola had access to, the head of state arrived at the site of the future Burns Hospital mid-morning on Tuesday.
"Mid-morning, at exactly 10 am, he arrived at the site where the Burns Hospital is being built, on the outskirts of the Quilamba Centrality, to inspect the construction site in detail," the statement reads.
During his visit, the president visited several areas of the infrastructure, including the fourth model, and heard from those responsible regarding the progress of the project, which is the responsibility of Omatapalo.
The visit was primarily aimed at assessing compliance with deadlines and quality standards, as well as identifying and resolving potential technical and operational constraints.
With over 240 beds, the future hospital is expected to be completed this year.
"The specialty hospital (which will exclusively handle human burns) will have 248 beds and is expected to be completed this year, according to the schedule," the Presidency statement said.
According to Angop, the project is valued at over 155 million dollars and began construction in March 2022 on an area of over 48,000 square meters, comprising four buildings, including the six-story main block, an oxygen production center, and a wastewater treatment plant.
The hospital's amenities include three hyperbaric chambers, the first in the country, designed to treat severe burns, among other conditions, as well as laboratories, a surgical center, imaging, physiotherapy, an outpatient consultation area, a cafeteria, and other facilities.
This project has a 36-month construction period.
In addition to the Burns Hospital in Luanda, the President of the Republic also visited the Pedro Maria Tonha Hospital this Tuesday.
"After visiting the construction site of the future Burns Hospital, the President of the Republic visited the nearly completed Pedro Maria Tonha Hospital in Morro Bento, touring its various areas at length," the Presidency of the Republic said in another statement that VerAngola had access to.
This unit, which is expected to open later this year, has over 140 beds and 25 hemodialysis chairs.
"The Pedalé Hospital will have 144 beds, 25 hemodialysis chairs, and 8 chemotherapy chairs," the statement added.
