The incident was reported this Monday, and the animal was found near the slopes of the Inconcon neighborhood.
"Staff from the Sumbe rescue and salvage station recorded, on the morning of Monday, August 11, the stranding, already dead, of a whale approximately five meters long, on the Sumbe Marginal waterfront, near the slopes of the Inconcon neighborhood, behind the Sé-Catedral of the Catholic Church," the ministry reported in a statement that VerAngola had access to.
The ministry added that, "to deal with the incident, a multisectoral committee was created, composed of the Environment Department, the Captaincy, and the Sumbe Municipal Administration."
The team will incinerate the animal as a preventive measure.
"The team is working to incinerate the animal, a measure designed to eliminate dangerous microorganisms and prevent the spread of disease," the statement further clarified.
