Prodigy: some have more reasons to celebrate independence than others

Rapper Prodígio made a point of saying that “some have more reasons than others” to celebrate Angola’s independence and stressed that the country’s destiny is in the hands of “all Angolans”.

:

"There are some who have more reasons to celebrate than others, right? I, who always celebrate our independence because I am truly patriotic (...), even though I am often sad, often unhappy, I truly believe that things could be better", the rapper told Lusa about the fiftieth anniversary of independence, on the sidelines of the presentation of the singer Paulo Flores' tour of several provinces in which he is participating as a guest artist, alongside Yuri da Cunha.

Prodígio, the stage name of Osvaldo Moniz, was born in 1988 and is one of the members of the Hip-Hop group Força Suprema, having lived for several years in Portugal, where he emigrated as a child.

The artist stressed that the country's future depends on all Angolans, who should not limit themselves to sitting idly by or being a "bench coach", since they are all activists in some way.

"I suffer a lot from this pressure, from 'what are you doing socially?', almost as if making music made me an activist from the start. But I believe that we are all activists in some way, not as a lifestyle, if we don't cook at home and are also cooks, then we play football with friends and are also footballers, right? So I believe that life has many layers and sometimes it's good, we have to be surgical in defying them", he highlighted.

As for the situation in the country, he considers that recent times have been "more confusing", which is widespread throughout the world.

"I never want to lose personal hope in what I do, which is art [but] I believe that the whole world is going through a strange transition phase, because I spend a lot of time abroad, around the world, and I notice that difficulty is becoming a common thing now", commented the rapper, noting that "things are very difficult", especially for those "at the bottom". "I imagine that they are doing much better up there," he said ironically.

As to whether Angolans have taken on their responsibilities for the country's future, he said he felt that those who demand the most "are usually internet users" who "do well by moving their fingers." "That must be what they do best for Angola," he lamented.

But Angolans in general, whom he described as "a people who sacrifice and sacrifice themselves," are also "great fighters" who "get beaten up a lot".
