According to the Secretary of State for Land Transport, Jorge Bengue, the construction of the MSL, whose first phase comprises 60 kilometers on the Avenida Fidel de Castro Zona Verde Sequele route and the ZEE Branch/Aeroporto Internacional António Agostinho Neto, is part of the National Development (PDN) 2023-2027.

The government official, who presented this Tuesday the Expansion and Modernization Program for the Angolan Transport and Logistics Sector, said that the MSL, which should be part of the integrated public transport network, comprises a total of 149 kilometers.

The consortium Siemens Mobility and Civil Construction Companies will be the contractors for this work, whose start date was not given by the person responsible.

Jorge Bengue, who was speaking within the scope of the "Comunicar Por Angola" space, an initiative of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, informed that studies for the construction of the MSL are already in the final phase.

"A priority route was defined, this is the route on which the latest studies focused, from the point of view of technical details, to start with there are already authorizations, there is an effort of around 1.9 billion dollars, these are the projections that the study points out from the point of view of cost estimation", he said.

The Luanda Surface Metro is part of the program to improve urban mobility in the capital, which has more than 10 million inhabitants, spread across nine municipalities.

Bengue said, on the other hand, that the Government did not approve the implementation of a cable car to Luanda, saying that it is not a specific project, but just a proposal presented to the Government of the Province of Luanda (GPL).

"It's a topic on which we have no technical opinion because it is not something that has been approved by the government," he responded to journalists.

At the end of June, GLP presented a preliminary study for a cable car project in the capital, with the capacity to transport up to eight thousand users in both directions of each section.

According to a statement from GPL, this air transport system, which has the participation of the Portuguese company Casais, "intends to assist mobility in the urban area and surrounding areas".

The Secretary of State for Land Transport also highlighted the digital transformation and decarbonization of the Transport sector are among the priorities of the ministerial department, noting that the electromobility legislative package should be approved this month.

"A technical team has already prepared the national electromobility plan, which sets out the concrete steps that we must take in terms of decarbonizing the sector", he assured.
