Authorized expenditure of 1.4 billion dollars for the construction of the Luanda Light Rail

The President authorized expenses of 1.3 billion euros (1.4 billion dollars) for the opening of a simplified contract contract for the construction, implementation and supply of equipment for the Luanda Surface Metro, this Tuesday fair announced.

:

João Lourenço, in presidential order n.º 53/23 of March 22, consulted this Tuesday by Lusa, refers that the contract, by material criteria, will be signed with the company Siemens Mobility and comprises four phases.

The contract includes the construction of a double railroad, linking the Port of Luanda and the Centrality of Kilamba, over a length of approximately 39 kilometres, including the construction of a maintenance park at each end of the line.

The construction of 24 stops distributed along the route and perfectly integrated with the city and the supply and commissioning of a fleet of 68 articulated vehicles of four units each are also included in the phases of the contract.

The supply and implementation of metro, signaling and railway telecommunications services, the traction power supply system for trains and fixed installations for the metro, as well as the rail traffic control system constitutes the last phase.

According to the President, the measure appears to respond to the great challenges of mobility and road infrastructure that Luanda presents, "a result of the exponential increase in its population, which in 2030 may exceed 12 million inhabitants".

The need to establish an integrated public transport network, using sustainable technology based on a modern Surface Metro System and integrated into the demographic fabric of the city of Luanda, is also one of the foundations of the initiative, he said.
